Professor MSO Eva Brooks, head of XLAB, hopes that the laboratory will promote more exchange between the university and the outside world:
"We plan to run two creative workshops aimed at children each semester. Here, the idea is that they can come and work with digital technologies and, for example, learn to program. We want to break down the walls of the university by letting children and young people experiment, explore and experience in the laboratory. But our intention is also that educators and teachers can come here to play and learn. Many of them do not feel well enough equipped educationally and technologically to work with digital technologies to that extent. The school reform is up for grabs, and here we would like to help. At the same time, we also plan to collaborate with museums, libraries and companies, and, in this connection, will offer both hot spots and open seminars."
The laboratory is open to everyone
While the laboratory is open to everyone, the initiators of XLAB: Design, Learning, Innovation also propose a strong interdisciplinary collaboration.
"We have already established a permanent collaboration with the Department of Architecture and Media Technology and with courses in media science. Their researchers, teachers and students keep coming to XLAB to work because the laboratory is open to everyone who works with digital technologies, innovation, or learning: "Our goal is to become a local, regional and international resource. It may sound ambitious, but we are taking it one step at a time and evolving in relation to what our stakeholders demand," emphasizes Eva Brooks.
